Family as a Social Institution

 1.  When the phrase social institution comes up very few people think of the word family. Social intuitions are like the cream to the crop. They not only serve as a medium but also carry out functions and form behaviors. Social institutions are the structures we have in the world we live in today. Institutions vary widely across the world. It is what makes up our world and the behaviors we accept, don’t accept, what we need, and what we want. Now how does family relate to social institution? Family institution is like the chief of importance in our society. Nothing goes farther back in time than family. Family is there through the good, the bad, and the ugly. Every person is somehow shaped by their family. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, family is everywhere.   "Family as Social Institution." Family as Social Institution.       2. Family to me is something that comes naturally. Say your family is hurt, you naturally hurt with them. It is something that happens so easily that we hardly even notice. You go day by day living a life formed to your family's morals or what they do and do not believe in. It would be hard to argue that family is not one of our main social institutions. From the day we are born our family has controlled what we do. Good, bad, or indifference, we listen to what our parents and siblings have to say the majority of the time. It is even hard to imagine a world without families. Who would you go to for advice, structure, comfort, or even stability? Our world as we know it would be chaos. Say you go over to your friends house for the night. Her family structure is going to be different from your family structure. You may even have to follow different rules and guidelines. What is normal for your friend might be out of the norm for you. Every family is different. But what is the same is that every society has family and without family everything would fall apart. Life is constantly changing and everyone needs at least one thing they can count on at the end of every day. For me, that is family.

What makes "State" a Social Institution

1."A government is an institution entrusted with making and enforcing the rules of a society as well as with regulating relations with other societies. In order to be considered a government, a ruling body must be recognized as such by the people it purports to govern. A person or group that considers itself the leading body of a society has no power if the members of the society do not recognize the person or group as such".  "Social Institutions." SparkNotes. SparkNotes, 25 Sept. 2015. Web. 25 Sept. 2015.

2. The state or government keeps everything in order and gives us structure as a society. Government is a leading body whose job is to make decisions regarding our rights and amendments. As a social institution it serves as a set of rules to our society. "Social Institutions." SparkNotes. SparkNotes, 25 Sept. 2015. Web. 25 Sept. 2015.

3. Conflict theory tells us that we are always trying to be on top or the most powerful. When I related conflict theory to state social institution I thought of how we as a society are constantly changing because of competition. Government is all about using their resources and they make sure we are not running out or someone else is taking our goods. "The Conflict Perspective - Boundless Open Textbook." Boundless. 4. Many people would argue that some jobs are more important than others. I would argue that each job is important in its own way. Even jobs that do not require a lot of schooling still can be a value to our society. Often times the jobs that we do not see as "important" are the ones that are the most important because very few people are willing to do them. Every occupation is important because it is what makes up our society and how we operate things as humans.
